Flat peaches twice as cheap in Uzbekistan compared to three weeks ago

The first small batches of flat peach varieties of the new crop became available on the markets of Uzbekistan in late May – early June. Prices dropped sharply since that time. Sources say that wholesale prices for flat peaches have fallen by 2.2 times over the past three weeks.

The Ferghana Valley is a key region producing peaches and nectarines in Uzbekistan, including flat peach varieties. According to market participants and producers, in early June 2022, the average wholesale price was 40,000 UZS/kg ($3.64). Almost three weeks later, as of June 22, 2022, the average wholesale prices were 18,000 UZS/kg ($1.65). In other words, over the past three weeks, the average wholesale prices for flat peaches have fallen 2.2 times.

According to market participants and producers, the fall in prices is due to a high yield of early varieties and optimistic expectations for the harvest of mid-ripening varieties, and as a result, growing volumes of supply in the domestic market.
