Canadian fruit cooperative wins awards for safety

Safety is a top priority for BC Tree Fruits Cooperative and on June 16, the Cooperative was rewarded for its efforts by the Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC (“MSABC”) when it received a Topaz Award and a Fantastic Four Risk Control Leader award.

The Topaz Award was given to BC Tree Fruits Cooperative for successfully achieving its Occupational Safety Standard of Excellence (OSSE)/Certificate of Recognition (COR) certification. BC Tree Fruits is the first fruit packer to receive a Topaz award and is the first fruit packing house in Canada to be COR certified.

The Fantastic Four Risk Control Leader Award is one of six MSABC Safety Excellence Awards that BC Tree Fruits Cooperative was nominated for and presented in recognition of mitigating risks and injury management within the workplace.

“Safety is a key pillar in our Cooperative,” says Warren Sarafinchan, president and CEO of the BC Tree Fruits Cooperative. “Whether it be our on-farm or consumer food safety programs or the health and safety of our growers and employees, safety is front and center to who we are every day. I congratulate all of our employees on these achievements and look forward to ongoing improvements as the Cooperative’s growers and employees work together to supply fresh BC tree fruit to the world.”
