The Uzbek watermelon export season started around 15-20 May, at about the same time as last year. Since the exports of the first batches of watermelon started, i.e. in the first month of the export season, Uzbekistan exported over 28,000 tonnes of watermelon, which is a record figure for at least the last five years.
According to preliminary data, from 16 May to 15 June 2022, Uzbekistan exported 28,100 tonnes of watermelon, which is 3.4 times more than in the same period in 2021. Considering that watermelon exports from Uzbekistan in physical terms did not exceed 1,600 tonnes in the same period in 2018-2020, the export volume in the first month of this season at least 17 times exceeded the volumes in 2018-2020.
As for the geography of exports, almost the entire volume of exports, about 99.5%, was shipped to the markets of the EAEU countries and smaller lots to Mongolia (60 tonnes), Ukraine (20 tonnes) and Latvia (18 tonnes).
