UK grocery bills set to rise by £380 per year, says Kantar
The average household grocery bill is expected to rise by £380 (€443) this year in the UK, as inflation takes its toll, according to Kantar. This is £100 more than the expected average increase Kantar reported in April, "showing just how sharp price increases have been recently and the impact inflation is having on the sector", according to Fraser McKevitt, head of retail and consumer insight at Kantar.

Ecommerce giant Amazon is launching in Belgium, with Amazon Belgium. The marketplace is said to launch in September. Earlier this year, the company announced plans of opening a logistics center in the country. Leaked documents show that Amazon has plans to expand into 5 new countries all over the world. One of those plans is the launch of Amazon Belgium. According to the documents, the online marketplace will launch by September.

Indian market regulator fines Reliance for not properly disclosing Facebook deal
India’s market regulator fined Reliance and two of its officers for not properly disclosing Facebook’s $5.7bln investment into Jio Platforms in April 2020. The Securities and Exchange Board of India said that media had reported about the then-impending deal in March itself, which prompted the shares of the group company to rise.

UK: Ocado aims to raise £575mln from investors to fund tech arm expansion
Ocado is aiming to raise £575mln from investors to fund the expansion of its technology arm, which enables overseas retailers to sell groceries online. It has also agreed a new £300mln credit facility with a syndicate of international banks. Ocado said it wanted the cash to “invest in innovation at a faster pace” and help its clients, which include the US supermarket chain Kroger and the French grocer Casino, to accelerate the shift to online shopping.

Britain's M&S names Alex Freudmann as new food boss
British retailer Marks & Spencer named Alex Freudmann as its new food boss, succeeding Stuart Machin, who was promoted to group chief executive last month. Freudmann, who is currently managing director of Australian beer, wine and spirits retailer Dan Murphy's, will join M&S as MD of food on November 1 and will sit on its executive committee.

The Canadian Press reported: "Loblaw Companies Ltd. says it plans to eliminate all single-use plastic shopping bags from its stores by the end of the first quarter of 2023. The parent company of Loblaws and Shoppers Drug Mart says the move will apply to its corporate and franchise grocery stores, pharmacies and PC Express service."
