The French apricot season has begun two to three weeks early at Kampexport in France. Good varieties, like Orange Red, Big Red, and Apriqueen, kick off the season. Kampexport supplies these fruit mainly to specialists in the German and Benelux wholesale markets.
"These apricots are delicious. We've had no rain, and sales are going well," says Theo Kampschoer, who has had an export business in France for almost 60 years. "I hope the growers will recover some of the losses they suffered in the past two years. However, the weather can still alter the situation dramatically. After all, thunderstorms often follow sweltering weather. But, we're crossing our fingers."
"We're two weeks early with peaches and nectarines and the better varieties. The season should be normal tonnage-wise. Spain has considerably less stone fruit to offer and a good local market to serve," Theo concludes.
