Output of watermelons in the main producing areas in China increased significantly

After a high price period that lasted for a whole summer last year, the output of watermelons in the main producing areas in China increased significantly this year. Entering June, many origins of fruits began to be listed on the market.

At present, the main variety on the market is still the rock sugar melon from Jiangsu and Zhejiang. The price shows an obvious trend of reduction due to the increase in production. There have already been stone melons from Ningxia, Gansu, and other regions on the market, as well as rock sugar melons from Henan. In addition, a number of watermelon varieties from Anhui, Yunnan, and other regions have begun to be gradually listed.

On a number of community group buying platforms, fruits coming from outside represented by Ningxia stone melons have opened the market of "one yuan melon". For a 7.5 to 8 kg of stone melon, the price is 21 yuan. With the coupon of the platforms, it was only 19 yuan to 20 yuan, marking the melon price go between 2.4 - 2.8 yuan/kg.

According to the person in charge of a fruit chain store, watermelon in the middle of summer was maintained in the high price range of 6 yuan to 10 yuan per kilogram last year. It was such a considerable price that many growers expanded their cultivation area at different scales this year. In addition, there was a suitable climate in each production area with no extreme weather. The overall output is considerable, and the supply of the entire market is abundant.

However, experts also remind us that watermelons in the high-temperature period will become the most popular fruit according to the law of the market. The current market price has not yet bottomed out, and the possibility of rebounding as the temperature continues to rise has not been ruled out. This situation is more likely to occur in August, making June and July the most affordable slots for eating melons every year.
