Julien Cremer, Sud ImpEx:

“The demand is great for our Sicilian melons!”

In order to put the tastiest varieties of melons on the market, Julien Crémer, director of Sud ImpEx, has been working for two years in partnership with Barbera International, a company located at the foot of the Etna volcano in Sicily.

“This melon is produced in the region of Licata, in Sicily. The fruit is oval in shape, with a thick skin and sugar levels of 17 degrees Brix, which makes it a melon of quality, with a lot of fragrance and a great taste.”

In terms of production, everything is done to maximize the quality of these melons sold under the Barbera brand. “The season starts at the end of April and ends around the middle of June. The melons are harvested at maturity in order to guarantee the best taste and high sugar levels. A number of natural practices are also used to reduce inputs and respect the product and the environment. So far, we are very pleased with the current season. This melon really meets the expectations of our clientele in search of quality products. We manage to supply these clients very well.”

In addition to the melons, Sud ImpEx also sells Victoria grapes from Sicily, and Black Magic grapes, both under the Barbera brand. “These are beautiful large grapes with a very nice color. We started the season at the end of May and it will end around mid-August for the Victoria variety from the Mazzaronne and Canicatti regions.”

Then, the season of the Italia variety from Sicily will start around the middle of August until December.

Sud ImpEx also sells some stone fruit such as the flat peach. “We sell the Samantha variety. There is a lot of demand for white-fleshed flat peaches. According to producers like Marty Fruits, the quality is good this year, with very nice volumes!”
