Farmers tested the Karmen scale during their grape campaign

The Karmen scale, designed for grapes harvested directly in the fields, seems to be attracting increasing curiosity among many agricultural entrepreneurs. Indeed, thanks to its light weight, accuracy and handiness, it allows to pack products directly at the harvesting points, thus speeding up operations and avoiding double handling.

We asked for feedback to the actual users of this innovative scale, namely two winemakers from Apulia who had the opportunity to test it already in the last campaign.

“Last year, before harvesting, we purchased 10 scales. The idea was to improve the working conditions of our employees, avoiding unpleasant inconveniences in the field, such as having to recharge our old scales with integrated lithium batteries on a daily basis, despite the fact that there was still the risk that they would abandon us in the middle of the harvest. Karmen, on the other hand, is a scale that is powered by 4 stylus batteries, having a duration of use of up to 2 months. Last year we used this machinery between July and December, replacing the batteries only once," said Nicola Santamaria, an entrepreneur from Noicattaro who grows about 60 hectares of grapes.

"We know how difficult it is to work in the fields, so we want no worker to be able to get too tired during the constant moving of equipment in the field. Each Karmen scale has its own box, including a lid, which is useful for storing it at the end of the grape campaign."

Teresa Diomede, manageress of the Racemus company in Rutigliano also spoke on the effectiveness of the Karmen scale. "It's hard to find a single point of weakness with this equipment. In a few weeks we will return to use it for the second year. We are very pleased that we have purchased some of them, so much so that we are considering an additional supply. It is a quite light scale, easy to handle and sanitize, and adaptable to any type of stand or counter."

"The tilt adjustable in depth allows us to wrap any type of packaging, up to a maximum of 25 kg, without having to mount additional pieces. Last year we did a great job with 5 kg cardboard packaging (30x40 cm), with very little effort."

"At the end of the working day, the disconnecting and transporting of the old scales to the warehouse in order to charge them and placing them back on the vehicles the next day, was becoming very tiresome. Karmen has changed the productivity of our female employees."
