Potatoes, avocados, legumes, and juices at the PLMA

After a three-year absence, suppliers and manufacturers could again present their wares at the PLMA's 2022 "World of Private Label". This two-day international event was held at the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam and attracted more than 14,000 buyers and visitors from 120 countries. It boasted mainly potatoes, vegetables, and fruit in juice and frozen form. Several fruit and vegetable sector players also displayed freshly chilled products.

Business revolves around connection, and private labels are no different. The fair, known for its 'decision-level' visitors, was busy, and the visitors were, indeed, high-quality. The show floor housed 2,500 exhibiting companies from more than 70 countries, including 60 Dutch stands. The exhibition space covered almost 42,000 m2 across 15 halls. Food was presented over most of that area.

That included products such as fresh, frozen, and chilled food, non-perishables, and beverages. From the fruit and vegetable sector, industrial processors, in particular, saw opportunities, both in canned and frozen foods. Several of these companies, including Coroos, Hak Fresh, and Baltussen Konserven now, also make fresh, chilled products.

They also specialize in pulses and are working hard on innovations. Beans and peas are attracting increasing interest as vegetable protein, and have enormous application potential. The same is true for avocados, another important base product for many food products.

People across the world love processed potatoes, from fries to purees. So, there were plenty of frozen potato product suppliers at the trade show. Quiks and CelaVita distinguish themselves as fresh, refrigerated product suppliers. They were present with an extensive range of these goods, as were providers of cold-pressed juices and shots who showed off a full selection of colorful products.
