Lucien de Wit, LuBaFresh:

"Italian grape season starts after tough Indian season"

The Italian season has begun at LuBa Fresh in the Netherlands. "We received the first shipment last week already, with another larger quantity this morning," says Luciën de Wit. The current supply consists of Victoria and Black Magic grapes from Sicily's plastic tunnel greenhouses.

"Their size and quality are both excellent. And the grapes' Brix levels are good too, especially for this time of year. The Italian season began about ten days later than last year." The first Egypt grapes are already on their way now. Luba Fresh expects these early next week.

"The Indian season is over; we got the last of these grapes yesterday. It was a difficult season. Fortunately, we had fixed programs, so we hardly had to buy on the free market. That market was poor from April to mid-May, and you could barely or not even achieve the high cost prices," Luciën concludes.
