Southwestern France: producers are forced to throw their strawberries away

The record temperatures in the spring, with 40 days in a row above average, have caused some damage to the orchards.

In southwestern France, some strawberry growers are forced to throw away nearly 70% of their harvest because the high temperatures, so early in the season, have accelerated the ripening of the fruits, which can no longer be sold.

Some professionals are even speaking of a crisis, because of the impact of the weather on prices, which are 20% lower than the average of the past 5 years, at the same period.
