Prices for strawberries increasing

Cucumber prices are dropping in Ukraine

Warmer weather has contributed to an increase in the cucumber harvest in Ukrainian greenhouses. The growth in their supply on the market is forcing producers to revise prices for cucumbers downward.

Currently, Ukrainian greenhouse plants are forced to offer cucumbers at no more than 36-50 UAH/kg ($1.23-1.71/kg), while one week ago were sold at 40-70 UAH/kg ($1.37-2.39/kg) depending on the variety and region of production. Thus, cucumber prices in Ukrainian farms fell by an average of 20% over the weekend.

Producers are forced to reduce prices so sharply due to the increased supply on the market after a noticeable decrease in demand for cucumbers. According to producers, the establishment of warm weather in Ukraine has significantly accelerated the ripening of cucumbers in local greenhouses. In addition, pressure on the market intensified due to the increased supply of imported cucumbers produced in Poland, Romania, and Serbia, offered for sale at 30-35 UAH/kg ($1.03-1.20/kg).

Strawberry prices up
In turn, Ukrainian strawberry producers managed to increase selling prices this week. Market operators say the primary reason for the price rise is unstable and low-volume deliveries of strawberries from local farms, which are explained by worsening weather conditions in the main production regions.

Ukrainian growers began to actively raise prices for local strawberries. Thus, the price increased by 30% on average only since the beginning of the week, and today strawberries go on sale at 70-120 UAH/kg ($2.39-4.10/kg).
