Pome fruit prices Lake Constance - Week 19:

'In the new season, Lake Constance is expecting a large harvest'

Since last week, temperatures have been rising, which has boosted demand for summer fruit, but has caused interest in pome fruit to be somewhat weaker. The daily sales have quieted somewhat, but promotions are well received, because consumers, probably due to the high inflation, pay more attention to promotions. This will probably only change again with improved purchasing power.

Nevertheless, people are not overly worried, because the stocks (+10% yoy) are still within an acceptable range. Braeburn is currently being phased out, Kanzi® will follow in about two weeks. From June onwards, the focus will be on marketing the Jonagold group, which will probably have a hard time being cleared by the start of the 22/23 season. In the new season, a large harvest is expected at Lake Constance, as there was no significant frost damage to apples there, as well as throughout Europe.

The first strawberries arrived last week. Despite the past Mother's Day, however, demand was restrained, again, probably due to the high prices.
