Wegmans, Publix, Harps make Newsweek’s America’s Best Retailers list
Wegmans Food Markets, Publix Super Markets and Harps Food Stores garnered the top ratings for supermarkets in Newsweek’s 2022 America’s Best Retailers list. Wegmans ranked first in the supermarket category with a score of 92.25, followed in the top five by Publix at 91.67, Harps at 89.62, Sprouts Farmers Market at 88.38 and Whole Foods Market at 87.67, according to this year’s Newsweek Best Retailers list.

Strong U.S. retail sales, manufacturing output boost economic outlook
U.S. retail sales rose strongly in April as consumers bought more motor vehicles amid an improvement in supply and increased spending at restaurants, providing a powerful boost to the economy at the start of the second quarter. The broad rise in retail sales reported by the Commerce Department suggested demand was holding strong despite headwinds from high inflation, souring consumer sentiment and rising interest rates.
Amazon’s Alexa app feature gives customers option to scan their shopping receipts for cashback rewards
The company confirmed to TechCrunch that it has introduced “Alexa Shopping List Savings”, which puts rebate offers from brands and manufacturers directly into consumers’ hands through the Alexa app, its mobile companion app for Echo device owners. The company says the offers will be displayed in the Alexa Shopping List section within the app and then can be used across retail stores nationwide to help customers save money.

Twin Cities area grocer Kowalski’s Markets has partnered with e-grocery specialist Mercatus to launch an enhanced online grocery experience. Toronto-based Mercatus said that Kowalski’s now offers expanded shopping list functionality and a curated recipe database. The recipe page also sports a new look and feel, led by a step-by-step instructional format designed to make recipes easier to follow.

Gogopasar, founded in September 2019, is now a subsidiary of FGV Integrated Farming Holdings Sdn Bhd, under FGV Holdings. Now, FGV Holdings also has business components which include fresh produce, cash crops, rice paddy, animal feed, livestock, and dairy farming. Customers won’t need to worry that their supermarket may not stock the vegetable or grocery they want at the stores, because Gogopasar will be able to source it directly from the farm itself.

The first initiative of this kind in Italy is the result of a partnership with Autismo Firenze, an association of families with autistic children. China: JD.com announces first quarter 2022 results
JD.com, Inc., a leading supply chain-based technology and service provider, announced its unaudited financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2022. First Quarter 2022 Highlights: Net revenues for the first quarter of 2022 were RMB239.7bln (US$37.8bln), an increase of 18.0% from the first quarter of 2021. Net service revenues for the first quarter of 2022 were RMB35.2bln (US$5.6bln), an increase of 26.3% from the first quarter of 2021.
UK food price inflation could hit 10% this year - M&S chairman
Food price inflation in Britain could hit 10% this year, the chairman of upmarket retailer Marks & Spencer said. “It wouldn’t be surprising to see food price inflation over the course of the year running towards 8-10%”, Archie Norman told BBC radio. “But we don’t know that yet because it runs through the year, some has gone through now but quite a lot’s still to come,” he said.
