It is now the vegetables turn in the Bangalore area to join the ‘Rs 100 club’. It is probably for the first time that many vegetables in the city are being priced over Rs 100. On Tuesday, beans were being sold at Rs 110 per kilo. Tomatoes were being sold for Rs 100 as well at many shops.
Even worse, traders say the prices of the vegetables will only increase due to incessant rainfall in neighboring districts. Other vegetables are becoming more costly as well. Green chilies, big chilies, and capsicum were being sold at Rs 80, and carrots for Rs 60.
Tomato prices have been seeing a fluctuation in the recent past. A few months back, tomatoes had touched Rs 100 and then fell to Rs 5 a kilogram. In the recent past, protesting the steep drop in tomato prices, farmers could be seen dumping the vegetable on the road.
