"Cauliflower season in Poland started without any delays"

The Polish cauliflower season is kicking off, and demand seems to be pretty strong from the start. As Poland hosts a lot of Ukrainian refugees, local demand is higher than usual, and there is also sufficient interest internationally.

According to Kornelia Lewikowska, purchasing manager for Polish vegetable exporter Green Best, the Polish cauliflower exporters have been able to start the season on time: "This year's cauliflower season in Poland started without any delay. New crops of both white cabbage and cauliflower are of good quality this year. In my opinion, the only obstacle to harvesting this year may be the drought in the fields. Farmers report that the rain is needed for an optimal season."

As a lot of Ukrainians have fled to Poland since the Russian invasion started, there is a lot more local demand for cauliflowers, Lewikowska explains. "The war in Ukraine will certainly affect the Polish vegetable market, as many Ukrainians have come to Poland, and this will increase the demand for food in Poland. From what I observe, the interest in cauliflower is quite big as it is, also internationally. We are slowly starting to export the cauliflowers that we have, but at the moment, the price in Poland and the Netherlands is similar."

The cauliflower season in Poland has only just started, but the pace is expected to pick up very soon: "Although we're only slowly starting right now, my expectations are that within a few weeks, the export of cauliflower will be in full swing. The faster pace of export should continue until November, which is when the season will end." Lewikowska concludes.
