A report prepared by the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo (FAESP), based on data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), pointed out that in 2020 the State of São Paulo was the largest fruit producer in Brazil. São Paulo's production was 18.11 million tons (34.76% of national production), more than triple that of the second place — Bahia, with just over 5 million tons produced.
São Paulo is also the champion in the production of avocado (163,000 tons), banana (1.12 million tons), persimmon (110,000 tons), figs (28,000 tons) and tangerine (390,000 tons). Even the fruits in which it is not the leader, the State occupies good positions, as is the case of guava (second place, with 223.300 tons), mango (third, with 259,000 tons), watermelon (second, with 297,000 tons), peach (second, with 59,000 tons) and grapes (third, 184,500 tons). However, the “stars” of São Paulo's orchards are oranges and lemons.
