Strawberry prices at origin have increased by 5.6% over the previous week and are what they usually are on these dates. However, supply has fallen. This, according to the latest report on the berry sector by the Observatory of Prices and Markets of the Government of Andalusia, corresponding to week 17 (from April 25 to May 1) of 2022.
According to the Junta de Andalusia, 85% of the expected volume in the total campaign has usually been marketed by the end of week 17. However, the cumulative production in the current campaign is about 6% lower than in the previous campaign, due to the losses caused by the rains of March and the first half of April.
Raspberry prices at origin are stable and continue to be above-average levels since March.
Normally, 68% of the total volume expected in the campaign has been marketed by the end of week 17. In the current campaign, the production distribution curve has been flattened.
In this sense, the report details that, despite obtaining a larger production in autumn than in previous campaigns, since March the marketed volumes have been considerably lower due to the rains. As a result, overall, the cumulative production is similar to that of the previous campaign.
Moreover, the price of blueberry at origin is falling again, continuing the steep fall that began in early April. In the last week prices have fallen by 6.4% (the kilo has been sold at 2.66 euro).
Finally, the Observatory of Prices and Markets pointed out that, up to this last week, almost 64% of the volume expected for this season has been marketed. It's worth noting that the blueberry campaign peaks in May.
