Tenerife doubles its avocado area

Avocado has become the fastest-growing agricultural product on the island of Tenerife. Its cultivated area has doubled in 10 years and its production has increased from 1.7 million kilos in 2012 to more than 4.29 million in 2020.

Most of the avocado sown in Tenerife is of the Hass variety and there are also crops of the Fuerte variety, but to a lesser extent, according to a statement made by the Council of Tenerife on Saturday.

Currently, its cultivation is expanding outside the boundaries of the Valleys of Güímar and La Orotava, with regular plantations in almost all the coastal municipalities of the island.
