Jeroen van der Spek, Groda AGF:

"Especially Class II Conference pear prices remain well on level"

Fixed programs currently dominate the top fruit market. "They're running normally, but there's a lot less peripheral trade than usual," says Jeroen van der Spek of Groda AGF, a top and soft fruit trade specialist in the Netherlands.

"Prices of especially Conference pears are reasonable. The Class II pears, in particular, are at a higher than usual level. Apples have had a tough season because of the large European harvest. Here too, the fixed lines continue to run, but it's difficult to achieve extra sales around this," says Jeroen.

Groda AGF sells its fruit on the European market. "England and Germany are participating especially well this year. Exports to France, where prices differ substantially to Dutch ones, are under more pressure."

Jeroen does not expect any problems during the transition to the new top fruit season. "As things stand, there'll be sufficient fruit coming and we have enough high-quality fruit available to finish the season," he concludes.
