Apple is the number one export fruit for Serbia, raspberry is the most profitable

“Last year, Serbia exported fruit worth a record 824.1 million euros, mostly apples, while raspberries were the most profitable export fruit,” said agrianalyst Goran Djakovic.

Djakovic pointed out that in the first quarter of this year, fruit exports increased by 24% compared to the same period last year and added: “Last year, Serbia earned exactly 206 million euros from the export of raspberries while this year, that figure stands at 256 million euros.” Next on the list of the most profitable export fruits are blackberries and cherries.

“Fruit export dynamics are as before, except for the export to the Russian Federation. Demand is good and we have entered new markets such as Egypt, India, and Indonesia, especially when it comes to apples,” Djakovic said.

Djakovic explains that because of the war in Ukraine, part of the fruit exports are transported to Belarus and the other to Estonia and then these countries are re-directing our fruit to Russia which is the biggest apple market for Serbia.

Djakovic also says that strawberries are an extremely attractive export product and difficult to produce. He also says that the climate in Serbia is very favourable for growing strawberries, which are of better quality than those from Greece. According to Djakovic, Serbian strawberries are very popular with the Germans, Belgians and French.
