Come mamma l'ha fatto - an entrepreneurial idea from a spring outing

The best ideas often arrive by chance, just like it happened to Roberto Lalinga, founder of "Come mamma l'ha fatto", the chili pepper preserve brand that is doing really well with operators and consumers.

"A few years ago, during a spring outing with friends, I brought with me a jar of preserve that my mother had made the previous fall. To me, it was something ordinary I had every day, but it was not for my friends who kept going back to it. From that day on, there had not been an event or a simple dinner with friends without a jar of those delicious chili peppers," recalls Lalinga.

Now Roberto manages a startup specializing in the cultivation and processing of chili peppers and vegetables with over 5 thousand jars sold. "We've set up an actual business in less than two years so that these healthy and genuine preserves could be purchased anywhere. The success was unexpected."

"The raw materials used to prepare the preserves are grown by us in the Pisticci area (Matera). We are currently transplanting chili peppers and other vegetables. Our mission is to remain as natural as possible, employing cultivation techniques that do not require chemicals and using modern equipment."

"Come mamma l'ha fatto" jars come from the creativity and genuineness of a housewife, Roberto's mother Enza, who has grown up in close contact with nature and agriculture. The preserves are currently sold in 180 g jars (net weight) and are available in 7 versions (including dried tomatoes, olives, eggplants and zucchini), each available in the spicy and sweet version. Only extra-virgin olive oil is used for their preparation.

"We are a very small business but there is a lot of potential for growth. Our clients are mostly restaurants but also small shops located all over Italy."
