Tests to export apples to the Far East continue

"For the past couple of years, we have been experimenting with sales in the Far East. Volumes are not very high yet, but things are looking good," reports Andrea Fedrizzi, Melinda marketing manager.

"Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan are some of the nations where we started. Everything was made possible thanks to the extensive experience of Naturitalia and Augusto Renella. In Italy, Melinda in one of the leading brands and feedback is great from Spain as well. However, we have just started in the Far East and we need to make ourselves known." 

High Italian quality is the base to promote apples from the Trentino area. The fruits exported are those most suitable to face a long journey and they have a high quality to meet the needs of a very demanding consumer public. 

"The purpose of these tests is to open up new markets, but with the primary objective of guaranteeing a fair remuneration to our producers. It would be useless to import if it did not provide enough margins. So far, our clients have been high-end big retail chains, which look for produce that is good to eat and nice to look at."

"After these initial tests, we are hoping to increase the volumes already as of the next campaign. Transport costs are high, so we cannot afford to lose even just one fruit. Product choice is at the base of everything. Varieties also include club apples such as Evelina, Tessa, Enjoy, Morgana."

"The clear tube packaging containing three Enjoy fruits is doing particularly well."
