Pegafit, of Koppert

Adhesive solution for trees against ants, cotonet and aphids in organic cultivation

The Pegafit adhesive solution for trees, marketed by Koppert, has been certified for use in organic horticulture. The certification was issued by CAAE, a Spanish certification body, which verified that Pegafit meets the European standards (Regulation (EU) 2018/848) for its application in organic cultivation.

This certification will allow Pegafit to be used as a crop protection product in organic farms. "We are providing organic growers with a very effective tool to prevent the negative impact of pests such as ants or aphids in open ground crops. We are talking primarily about woody crops, such as citrus and other fruit trees," says José Miguel Fernández, product manager of Pegafit at Koppert Spain.

Physical barrier on the trunk
Pegafit is a highly adhesive solution that is placed around the trunk to create a physical barrier that prevents insects from crawling to the upper parts of the tree. "The product is resistant to water and has a shelf life of about 10 weeks. It is an effective means of stopping pests such as cotonet in citrus and aphids in almond trees. However, it has proven to be most effective against ants. The use of Pegafit is spreading every year throughout Spain, especially in Castile-La Mancha, the Region of Valencia, Extremadura, Murcia and Andalusia," said the company.

"Since its launch two years ago, Pegafit's market growth has been unstoppable thanks to its ease of use, effectiveness and profitability. Currently, it is the only product of its kind authorized in Spain for use in both conventional and organic horticulture. Pegafit is marketed in 5-liter cans and the usual dosage ranges from 1 to 2 cans per hectare, depending on the planting density."
