Do the products need to be particularly ventilated or cooled, do they need to be stored dry or moist, or are they particularly sensitive to pressure.

"When designing our containers, we pay attention to many details in order to transport the fresh produce as gently as possible," Gerold Wilms explains. The containers are smooth and without sharp edges so that fruits and vegetables will not be damaged. The perforated side walls ensure good air circulation. The fruit and vegetables thus remain fresh and can be kept at an optimum temperature in the cold store. Another advantage of the standardized plastic containers is their good stackability, both on top of each other and on pallets. Even when stacked, the sturdy boxes can withstand the highest loads. But plastic containers are not only convincing in terms of function. Although they are made of plastic, they are more environmentally friendly than people expect.

"Sometimes, our reusable containers are in use for an extremely long time, in some cases up to 30 years," says Gerold Wilms, who looks after farmers, producer associations for fruit and vegetables, and customers from the food processing industry. At the end of their life cycle, the containers are recycled, thus returning to the material cycle. Furthermore, the fruit and vegetable crates made of recycled material are available as well. This material is certified and guaranteed food safe.
