The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services are investigating the cause of a fire at the Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market on March 19. At that date, a section of the fruit hall caught fire.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a service provider, who specializes in electrical engineering services, was on site and working on the electrical reticulation in halls five and six when the incident happened at about 21:07.
Security personnel on duty immediately reported the incident to EMS and Joburg Market maintenance department. EMS arrived on-site and extinguished the fire timeously. The MMC of Economic Development at the City, Nkuli Mbundu, and Joburg Market board of directors were on site on Saturday night and Sunday morning to provide guidance and oversight on the recovery process underway.
