The Pecan Cluster will hold the XII Technical and Commercial Workshops 2022 on March 31 and April 1

Pecan production grows in Entre Rios

Pecan production has been growing in Entre Rios at the same rate as the world's demand for increasingly exquisite products is growing.

The COVID-19 pandemic strengthened a consumer profile that is looking for gourmet and healthy products. This represents an opportunity for Entre Rios' pecan production that wants to consolidate itself in Argentina.

According to estimates, Argentina currently has ten thousand hectares of pecan. The Mesopotamian region accounts for almost 50% of the planted land. In addition, it has the most important nursery in the country and its surroundings, as well as three peeling plants and four conditioning plants.

According to data from the Pecan Cluster, pecan production is growing at a rate of 800 hectares per year. The cluster brings together some 200 pecan producers in Argentina, 80 of which are in Entre Rios, and the rest in NOA, Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, and Cordoba.

In 2021, Argentina exported a thousand tons and destined a similar quantity to the domestic market. The country exported the product to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Brazil, and the European Union.

“We are very optimistic about this growth rate. Argentina should export 1,200 to 1,400 tons of pecan in 20200," stated Federico Lavista Llanos, a producer and member of the cluster that has brought together producers and companies from the sector for more than eight years.
