“For Turkish exporters, the exports to Russia haven’t stopped”

Turkish produce is still finding its way onto the Russian market. Although there was some uncertainty among Russian importers for about a week, things are moving once again. Prices for fresh produce on the Turkish domestic market are back to normal as well.

Although there were some price drops for fruit and vegetables on the Turkish domestic market last week, according to Sefik Can from Canlar Fruit, prices have already recovered back to the usual price. “When it comes to the local market, we haven’t really noticed any price decreases here in Turkey. Around 5 5% of the Turkish agricultural production is exported around the world every year. This means that 95% of the production is consumed domestically, and thus it’s not feasible to expect any decrease on fresh fruit and vegetable prices, really.”

Although most of Europe is no longer allowed to export goods o the Russian market, this isn’t true for Turkish produce. Can is thankful for it, as they send quite some products to Russia every year: “For Turkish exporters, the exports to Russia haven’t stopped. However, there definitely is a decrease when looking at our region’s exports figures to Russia. Despite the sanctions in regards to Swift, we’ve not seen problems when it comes to payments so far. Our company exports apples, grapes, peaches, cherries and pomegranates to the Russian market.” he concludes.
