Two Dutch growers associations partner to auction cucumbers

In the Netherlands, the Kompany growers association and ZON cooperative have come to an agreement. ZON will sell Kompany's cucumbers at auction. Both organizations believe this intended merging of forces will allow them to jointly serve the market optimally.

Using the auction adds to Kompany's sales channels. It wants to serve the market even better with this addition to existing sales. "We've recently had constructive discussions with ZON about how we'd like to sell our cucumbers at auction," says Arnoud van Stralen, Kompany's Managing Director.

"We think we can reach more customers via this existing platform. And we'll be able to meet various clients' needs. They want to get the widest possible product package in one place. Also, we're curious to see whether this way of marketing will generate demonstrable added value for our product."

Peter van Bree, ZON's chairman, adds, "We've invested in the latest, most modern auctioning system. We want to offer our auction buyers as complete an assortment as we can. We serve a growing number of customers every day. And we've been looking for a structural cucumber supply for some time."

The cucumber season begins in early February. This product will be available, at auction, in various sizes and packaging, from then on.
