Three newcomers to Delhaize's executive committee

UK: Southern Co-op stores to sell more food past best before date
Southern Co-op has expanded its ‘Reducing Our Foodprint’ initiative which sees selected products past their ‘best before’ date being reduced to 20p. Fresh products will be sold up to 2 days after their ‘best before’ date and ambient products will be sold up to 7 days after their ‘best before’ date. Examples included in the reduction initiative include tinned fruit and veg, dried pasta and rice, confectionery, selected condiments, sugar and sweeteners, coffee, tea and jams as well as chilled products such as soft fruit and fruit juices.

UK: Aldi debuts first checkout-free store in Greenwich
Aldi has opened the doors of its 1st ever checkout-free store in the London borough of Greenwich. The ‘Aldi Shop&Go’ concept store is now open for public testing after months of being trialled with the grocer’s staff. The store is located on Greenwich High Street and allows customers to simply put items in a bag and walk out the store without the need to scan an item or visit a till point.

The largest retailer in Kazakhstan suffers multimillion-dollar losses from looting
Magnum Cash&Carry, the largest retail chain in Kazakhstan, estimates the damage from looting at 11bln KZT ($25.3mln), EastFruit experts report referring to Adindex.Asia. According to Dmitry Shishkin, Magnum’s PR manager, only chain stores located in Almaty were affected. A total of 25 stores were attacked by looters, of which 15 were completely looted, 11 were partially looted. He clarified that there are 68 stores in the city of Almaty, of which more than a 3rd suffered.
