Bonduelle introduces PGI rocket from the Sele plain on the Italian market

Pgi rocket is now part of the Bonduelle salad premium range, which focuses on Italian origin, transparency and proximity as core values of an increasingly sustainable agriculture. Pgi rocket from the Sele plain reflects Bonduelle's commitment to favoring local and seasonal productions, meaning the maximum freshness and excellent quality of raw materials. All of this was discussed during the presentation day held in Battipaglia (Salerno) on October 27th, 2021.

"Bonduelle, thanks to its partner O.P. Oasi, produces 15% of the Pgi rocket grown in the Sele plain, while the total production involves 430 companies part of the consortium. Bonduelle was the first to introduce Pgi rocket from the Sele plain to the Italian market and, thanks to the exclusive relationship with O.P. Oasi, is among the main promoters of the Consortium," explained Op Oasi president Antonio Salvatore.

"The collaboration with a company such as Bonduelle, which has immediately believed in the potential of our product, will be essential to promote our territory and the high-quality of our products, considering its capillarity on the big retail chain market," added Vito Busillo, president of Consorzio di tutela della rucola della Piana del Sele IGP.

Bonduelle has a dual objective - supporting the consortium when it comes to investments on technology to guarantee product traceability and creating a system to effectively convey all those values that cannot usually be expressed on a label.

Pgi rocket from the Sele plain boasts unique characteristics due to its cultivation environment, which characterize its organoleptic and morphological component.

The Consortium was set up on March 10th 2021 under the guidance of Vito Busillo. It gathers 5,000 direct operators and 4,000 operators in linked industries with 430 affiliates (60% led by young people) and has the objective of safeguarding and promoting the product so that it can be in the national top-5 of branded products.

"The consortium plays a pivotal role in the development of a product worth €680 million a year, with an average production of 400 thousand tons and representing around 73% of the domestic total."
