The figures published by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) highlight the significant increase there was in Peru's avocado production in August of this year. In August, Peru harvested 32,460 tons of avocado, i.e. 39.6% more than in the same month of the previous year.
This result was driven by the adequate meteorological conditions that allowed the development of the crop, according to the 'Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook' technical report.
Avocado production increased mainly in the producing areas of Lambayeque (90.5%), Lima (83.5%), and La Libertad (40%), which accounted for 65.7% of the national production.
It also increased in Cusco (254.8%), Apurímac (175.9%), Arequipa (164.6%), Pasco (126%), Cajamarca (84.9%), Junin (50.5%), Ancash (50.1%), and Huanuco (2.3%).
However, it fell in Piura (-66.2%), Ayacucho (-56.8%), Ica (-55.8%) and Moquegua (-12.2%).
