High temperatures are in the past: cold sealing is here

Most packages are sealed under high temperatures. However, there is now a new, not so hot way of enclosing the produce: cold sealing. At the Fruit Attractión 2021, Juan José Cruz, manager of Earis, presented Cold Sealing, a technology suitable for sealing fruit trays and other fresh products.

Cold sealing has great advantages over traditional hot sealing, which is the most common technology today. It means a cost saving of around 200% in the investment to be made in machinery and molds. Cold sealing uses no molds, and changing formats is as easy as changing rolls of labels.

In a scenario like the current one, in which several countries are already manifesting their decision to gradually put an end to single-use plastics, Cold Sealing technology allows a 30% saving in the use of plastic compared to heat sealing, as well as being compatible with most common cardboard and wood pulp containers on the market.

The technology used to cold-seal the trays makes the lid resealable, which keeps the product fresh for longer, thus reducing food waste. Furthermore, with the same machine, there are 3 different working modes: cold welding, welding, and labeling, or just labeling.
