Folding stacking crates offer new possibilities

With this folding stacking crate, Remmert Dekker Packaging has reinvented the iconic fruit and vegetable crate. According to this Dutch manufacturer, it is both foldable and stackable. Until now, you could only do that using multiple steps or a set-up machine, but now, in a single move, you can unfold these stackable crates.

"The extra glued corners are what allow this: they fold out when the crate is set up. This construction is a proprietary development and specially developed using our folding/gluing machine," says Kees Lamboo, a structural designer at Remmert Dekker Packaging. The packaging is delivered pre-glued, so you can use it right away, without a set-up machine.

This new packaging means packers can stock and fold far more crates with far less space. "You can use it for many types of fruit and vegetables like tomatoes, passion fruit, kiwis, figs, cherries, or grapes. It can even replace the wooden mandarin crates," he says.

These stacking crates have a recognizable, attractive look and offer great presentation possibilities. Full-color offset printing also lets you express the brand and associated experience to maximum effect, ensuring recognition on store shelves.

These crates' dimensions are compatible with the fruit and vegetable sector's logistical sizes system. A 40x60 EPS crate can hold four crates, and other sizes are also possible on request. The crates are assembled in-house in North Holland, and are made from sustainably certified cardboard using green energy.

This company has already brought sustainable, water-resistant soft fruit packaging onto the market, and it has won a packaging award for the best plastic-free tomato packaging.
