Ubora Orchards, headquartered in Nairobi Kenya, this week announced the official launch of the company focusing on the exportation of organically grown avocados for markets in Western Europe, the United Kingdom and Asia.
The Kenyan soil, temperatures, humidity and water are very suitable for growing top-quality avocados. Since avocado trees do not require much fertilizer or pesticides, they are highly ecological to grow. Kenya is ranked 8th in the global market of avocado-producing countries. Mexico, while first, presents cost and quality challenges for markets in Europe and Asia. Kenya, because of its location in East Africa, offers strategic supply chain advantages in time and cost. Shipping to the European markets from the port of Mombasa, for example, will save as much as $1 USD per 4 kilogram box over other competitors.
Ubora sources its avocados from orchards in the Central, Eastern and Rift Valley Regions, with sustainable growing methods overseen onsite by a Ubora agronomist. Ubora carefully selects and manages its pickers who undergo rigorous training on sustainable farming methods. The company possesses certifications from Global G.A.P, SMETA and FPC Kenya.
The team’s deep understanding of the customer and consumer drives their mission to become one of the leading Kenyan exporters of high-quality fruits, observing the highest levels of social, ethical, ecological and environmental responsibility.
Ubora Orchards is a family-owned agribusiness with more than 25 years of experience in the team. Ubora’s produce - specifically avocados - are the product of environmentally friendly farming to ensure the most natural fruit. Avocados are handpicked for quality and consistency and are closely monitored from harvest, to packing in Nairobi and Thika and to final delivery for shipping to global markets. Along the way, Ubora supports its local farmers and communities with education on farming methods to increase both efficiency and top quality.
