US firm wins auction to take over supermarket chain
A US private equity group is poised to take control of the UK's fourth-largest supermarket group. Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) has won an auction for the British supermarket Morrisons with a £7bln ($9.5bln) bid. It marks a return to the UK grocery sector for Terry Leahy, the former chief executive of Tesco, who is a senior adviser to CD&R.

Amazon Conklin distribution center construction work now underway
Development activity for the future Amazon distribution facility at the Broome Corporate Park in the town of Conklin is continuing. Construction crews have been busy at the Carlin Road site over the last several weeks. Amazon is leasing nearly 66,000 square feet at the former Matthew Bender distribution center, which employed more than 100 people at the site before it was closed.

Philippines: SM Markets boosts online presence of supermarket business
SM Markets said it further broadened the online presence of its supermarkets in order to reach consumers during the COVID-19 pandemic. SM Markets Online is currently available in 70 branches in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao, as well as other key cities in Luzon and Visayas, the company said in a statement. The group said it aims to cover 100 locations by the end of the year.

India: More time to seal Future, Reliance deal

Denmark: Circle K posts stronger than expected results in full year
Circle K Denmark has reported stronger than expected results in its full financial year ended 30 April 2021, with a turnover of DKK9.3bln (€1.25bln). The company's earnings after tax amounted to DKK461mln (€62mln) during this period. The company attributed it to growth in Circle K's stores and good business development.

Eroski launches solidarity campaign for La Palma volcano victims
Spanish retailer Eroski has launched a campaign throughout its commercial network to raise funds for the people affected by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma island. As part of the campaign, the retailer will encourage the consumption of Canarian Bananas as a way of supporting the banana sector and the population affected by this natural disaster. ‘Half of online shoppers buy cross-border’
