New Kiwiplant srl (NKP)

New golden kiwifruit variety presented in Latina

New Kiwiplant srl (NKP) organized a meeting and orchard visit to promote a new golden kiwifruit variety created in cooperation with the University of Udine (AC 501 022 2018/3379).

Over one hundred technicians and operators from all over the world attended and visited the two-year-old orchard covering 2 hectares owned by Luca Mirabello, partner of Cooperativa Zeoli.

During the visit, NKP partners described the characteristics of the new variety. Participants also discussed growing techniques, productive potential, plant and fruit characteristics and the nursery material available with NKP technicians.

The variety's points of strength include high productivity, uniform fruits with a large grade (average weight: 110-120 g), long shelf-life in refrigerated units (approximately 150 days), no pre-harvesting drops nor cracking phenomena.

NKP is the union of 5 companies (two Greek companies, Fitotechniki and Zeus Kiwi SA, and three Italian companies, Vitroplant Italia srl Società Agricola, Tuttofrutta Quaranta and Soc. Coop. Agr. Zeolifruit) that, in 2008, combined their agronomic, nursery and commercial skills and, in collaboration with the University of Udine, invested considerable resources for the genetic improvement and creation of new golden kiwifruit varieties. In addition to the variety presented in Latina, the NKP group owns other interesting genotypes that are currently being tested in various soil and weather conditions.

Research is a fundamental element for the group. Partners wish to continue investing to make new varieties and rootstocks available to tackle the various biotic and abiotic stress elements that are causing serious damage to various cultivation areas.
