Mario Miulli of Imprimatur Group - Italy

High-end fruit and vegetables with special packaging

For some top-of-the-range products, packaging plays a key role. However, who is behind the design of the baskets and packaging increasingly seen on the shelves of large-scale distribution and in specialist shops? Attending Macfrut was Mario Miulli from the Apulian Imprimatur Group, which collaborates, among others, with La Grande Bellezza Italiana (LGBI).

"Together with the LGBI companies' network, we have conceived and realized a very refined packaging line, able to exalt fruit for its particular characteristics. Our philosophy is that a basket must communicate and have people speaking about it".

But what does the fruit and vegetable world ask of a packaging designer? "Today they expect us to be sustainable, to have ecological packaging, because this is the most urgent need. Therefore, we study solutions in which paper and cardboard are combined with a transparent PLA film, which is biodegradable, so that the whole pack, once its function is over, can be disposed of in paper."

Each pack costs up to three times more than a traditional plastic one, but this seems to be the way forward for those who want to stand out. The packaging becomes an integral part of the product, it's a bit like buying a car and then spending an extra thousand euros on your favorite color.

After years of experience in the printing field, Imprimatur Group srl has embraced one of the most important production sectors in the market, namely paper converting. Analysis and research in the packaging sector have enabled us to be able to meet the most varied customer needs, from market analysis to strategy; from design to the physical production of the packaging (boxes, cases, baskets, boxes, etc.) with tailor-made solutions designed in full respect of the brand identity, with the highest quality standards to meet growing needs from the fruit and vegetable sector to the world of luxury goods.

It is a unique and eco-sustainable supply chain, able to monitor the entire production process and which aims to promote and enhance recyclable and compostable materials, where the main route is the ultimate replacement of plastic.

"Great attention is paid to the structural characteristics of the packaging, in order to optimize aspects related to housing, transport, storage and palletization," concluded Miulli.
