Fruit Logistica puts the focus on Nordic countries at Huelva's Berry Congress

"Supporting the Spanish berry sector is again very important for us"

Fruit Logistica, the leading international fair for the fruit and vegetable sector, has sponsored the 6th edition of Huelva's International Berry Congress; an event organized by Freshuelva that has brought together about 750 professionals on September 15 and 16 .

Fruit Logistica has collaborated with the international presentations, which this year have been focused on business opportunities for Spanish berries in the Nordic countries. Spain already sells strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries in these markets; however, according to the experts who participated in the event, the full export potential has yet to be untapped.

Alexandre Neves, buyer for this product category at the Swedish wholesaler Everfresh, highlighted the importance of organic produce in Sweden. "Swedish consumers are not only interested in the origin of the products, but also in their environment commitment both in terms of production and packaging," he said. Everfresh already imports organic strawberries from Huelva and does not rule out expanding its portfolio with other fruits from the region.

For his part, Roger Nyqvist, general manager of the wholesaler Agrica AB, focused his presentation on the Finnish market, where the company operates. In this market, strawberries reached the highest import volume in recent years, but blueberries and raspberries were the ones that grew the most in terms of value. These are very promising data for Huelva fruits, which demonstrate the potential for growth in the Finnish market.

Fruit Logistica highly appreciates this collaboration. "Once again, supporting the Spanish berry sector is very important for us. Not only because of its great contribution to the Spanish agro-food sector, but also its great commitment to exporting", says Silvia de Juanes, Fruit Logistica's Communication Director for Spain and Latin America.

In addition to the sponsorship, Fruit Logistica also participated in the congress with an exhibition space where all attendees had the chance to learn more details about the 2022 edition, which will take place in Berlin between 9 and 11 February. After two years and under the slogan "Meet on site, connect again", the sector's biggest event will again bring the main players in the international fruit and vegetable sector together in person.
