Opening and closing operations only take a few seconds and can be controlled remotely to be closed in case of storms or frost and opened to facilitate ripening.

"The Sprint Cover active cover system was studied against rain and hail to protect crops from fungal diseases, rot and cherry cracking in particular. The opening and closing system works particularly well on cherry orchards, but is excellent also with the other fruit and vegetable species affected by excessive rain," explains Giancarlo Montorfano.
The fact that opening and closing operations only require a few seconds means it is possible to protect the crops only when it is actually necessary, so they can grow in open fields as much as possible. Sprint Covers employ an innovative single-row quick winding method: an entire row is activated by a single motor. Sprint Cover is a registered trademark by Carpenteria Fossano and the structure is patented.
"Each single motor can manage spans up to 200 meters long. Modules can be up to 18 meters long, 5 meters wide and 5 meters high at the reach. They are connected mechanically to form a rigid structure with no rods. The cover is stable against the wind, as the central side is secured to the winding drum, while the external sides are secured to steel cables using elastics." Anti-insect nets can be supplied as an option.
