Italy: Conad launches new store format in Milan
Italian grocery retail market leader Conad has rolled out its new store format - Urban - in the Piazza Loreto area of Milan. Taking the place of a Conad City store, the Spesa Facile outlet sits on 300 sq. m space, and features several novelties, targeted at the medium-high end of the market. The delicatessen counter with sliced cold cuts has been replaced with a large self-service offer, while a bulk offer has been added to the packaged fruit and vegetables section. Speaking to Gdoweek, the head of the Conad City channel of Cia-Conad, Gianluca Abriani, explained that the intention is to “win new customers among those interested in quick shopping”.

UK: Bidding war for supermarket giant Morrisons set to be decided in dramatic auction showdown 'within weeks'
The Takeover Panel is expected to begin talks with the 2 bidders and the Morrisons board as soon as this week. The panel hopes to get a consensus between the board and the private equity bidders - Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and Fortress - over the format of the auction. The bidding war became public in June and the CD&R bid of 285p per share, posted at the end of last month, will now push the process into its 4th month. American online marketplace GreenChoice has collaborated with retail chains Walmart, Walgreens, and Target to launch a platform that enables shoppers to sort through several items and offsets the carbon footprint of their purchases. US: Natural Grocers raised more than $800,000 over the past year for food banks in its communities
