Peter Andreas Meesters from MingaBio Ltd & Co.:

"There is a higher demand for organic mangoes"

The Trübenecker family from Munich has been present at the Viktualienmarkt since 1993, where they supply their customers with fresh fruit and vegetables from the region. The online store of the same name followed in 2013. The company's product range primarily includes organically grown produce. Peter Andreas Meesters, one of the company's three managing directors, talked to us about their range of organic mangoes from various Spanish regions, among other things.

Higher demand for organic mangoes
"We offer eight different varieties of mangoes, such as Glen, Irwin or even Kensington Pride produce. The tree-ripened fruits from Spain are characterized by their special flavor intensity," says Meesters. It is important to the Munich-based company to be able to offer both organic and fair-trade goods. "Demand is significantly higher than it was five years ago. There seems to be an increasing understanding of the importance of quality mangoes. Many customers are also willing to pay more for the produce."

Mangoes from Mexico and Thailand
In addition to Spanish mangoes, Trübenecker also offers mangoes from Thailand and occasionally products from small farmers in Mexico. Kipepeo produce from Thailand had a relatively short season this year, however. "In Munich, we deliver to our customers personally, otherwise we ship between 500-600 packages per week throughout Germany via DHL and UPS."

Compared to last year, private sector sales are down a bit, which is related to the end of the lockdown. Says Meesters, "Deliveries to offices are up again, which is also reflected in the higher demand for our office boxes."
