VOG Products on track despite Corona pandemic

Despite the Corona pandemic, VOG Products completed a successful fiscal year. Sales reached 102.5 million euros; the disbursement volume to member cooperatives amounts to around 40 million euros.

VOG Products can look back on an exceptional fiscal year, which was dominated by the coronavirus. Thanks to the great commitment of its approximately 190 employees, the company was able to cope well with the Corona pandemic and further establish itself as an important partner to the international food industry.

VOG Products achieved sales of 102.5 million euros in the last fiscal year (01.07.2020 to 30.06.2021), with lower volumes of raw materials supplied than in the previous year. In addition to European markets, new business opportunities have opened up in exotic markets (Asia, Australia). The export ratio is around 90%. The difficult situation in the food service industry led to losses due to corona, but these were compensated with other business areas, new customers and new markets.

The positive result led to an attractive payout price to the member cooperatives: The payout price varies from 0.13 euros/kg for juice apples -mixed varieties- to 0.42 euros/kg for Golden Musware apples Bio Babyfood and 0.44 euros/kg for peel apples Bio. A total of around 40 million euros will be paid out to member cooperatives for the past fiscal year.

In addition to the further expansion of business with B2B customers (business to business), the producer organization (owned by 18 South Tyrolean fruit cooperatives and four producer organizations from South Tyrol and Trentino) is strategically focusing on another track: in the future, the end customer (business to consumer/B2C) will increasingly come into focus. That is why the product range has been expanded in recent months: In addition to apple juice, VOG Products also produces apple puree and apple cider vinegar.

The most important investments in the past fiscal year related to a new receiving station and a belt press for the production of high-quality naturally cloudy premium apple juice.

Johannes Runggaldier, chairman of VOG Products and Christoph Tappeiner, director.

"Our goal is to further increase the added value for our approximately 9,800 producers or family farmers in South Tyrol and Trentino," said VOG Products chairman Johannes Runggaldier. "We achieve this by refining the apple into high-quality products. With every processing step that we do ourselves, we generate added value. This is how we have evolved from a concentrate producer to a juice producer and on to a puree producer, or from a processing company to a refining company. In our early days, we had four hand-counted customers - today we have over 500 around the world. One in five apples harvested in the catchment area is processed by VOG Products - and we expect our processing volumes to continue to grow in the future."

The company also plans to continue growing in the B2B sector, and it will do so through specialization. "We will offer more specialty products and solutions for the food industry," said Director Christoph Tappeiner. "The origin and roots of our products play a major role here. In the strong agricultural background of our territory and our owners, there is the true quality feature of our products."

VOG Products has had a good start to the new fiscal year. For the current fiscal year, management expects higher fruit volumes than last year. The strategic focus is on further increasing refinement and in setting an emphasis on sustainability.

The Board of Directors approved the draft balance sheet on August 26. It will be submitted to the General Assembly for a vote on October 28.
